Sorta slept thru breakfast, but as Avon always says, I got up before breakfast. We grabbed a Starbucks (had a coupon, otherwise would have definitly gone to Dunkin' Donuts since that is the coffee shop du jour of Boston...will explain at another time), hopped a Subway and headed to the Boston Commons area. Had a difficult time locating Charles Street of all places but eventually wound our way thru the park and found it. Then headed up to Paramount Deli. Very vundebar. By the time we got there we were ready for lunch, so Mrs. J had the Crabcake BLT and I went with standard deli fare - the grilled Reuben. Really liked the place. It's small. Had 30 minute wait, but those folks know what they're doing and the experience was great.
From there we found our way back over to the State House and then to Faneuil Hall and Qunicy Market. LOTS of people out on Saturday. But, from there we took the subway back to Fenway and landed there around 4:30 for 7:05 first pitch. More great fun. Went to the Cask and Flagon. When's the last time you went to a Rangers game and stood in line outside a bar to get in...2.5 hrs before game time? Guess I should amend that...when's the last time you went to a Rangers Game and there was a bar outside of the game?
The atmosphere is really great there. Lots of excitement in the air...on Yawkey Way...just outside the stadium...souvenir shops, food stands, beer stands, etc. and that's actually all INSIDE the area where they take/check your ticket. From that point, you can get food/drink and step right inside to the stadium and go to your seat. Had a sausage dog from El Tiente...i.e, Luis Tiant's place. And guess who was at game tonight? Louis Tiant himself.
Game atmosphere was great - LOTS of Mets fans...who had not had too much to cheer for until top 9 with two outs, guy hit a HR off top part of Green Monster - the only hit off of the GM tonight. To add to the suspense, the umps called it a double, but then huddled and reviewed it...then called it a HR. Mets stole victory from the jaws of defeat.
Good seats!!
