A Weekend with Larry

Nothing says a good weekend like starting Friday Night with a great meal, a good night’s sleep and then a successful jaunt through the countryside on Saturday.

Friday Night I had my first meal out – during the week it was Groundhogs Day with the breakfast buffet at the hotel followed by lunch in the ever popular Company lunchroom, er Canteen., dinner just snacking. But, a nice meal can certainly improve one’s attitude, if you know what I mean. Went to Tango and had an excellent white fish and sauce, with little-bitty cauliflowers and berries, side of olives, sourdough bread and olive oil, and a martini. It was all very, very delicious. That US price? $95+tip. Maybe my boss will have a good sense of humor.

I asked the guy I’m auditing for a good weekend excursion to see the area (always a risk – you have to have trust in him!). So he gave me a good route that I spent a leisurely 6 hours on Saturday. And, the weather cooperated. Despite cool (that would be ‘cold’ to you) and overcast, it didn’t start lightly raining until I was on my way back into town. Ferries are plenty and often out between the fjords. This is a good representation of what the fjords look like: http://www.fjords.com

Took a circular route that provided maximum sightseeing. Started with a 40-minute ferry ride north to a town called Tau. Then south along the coastline through Jorpeland and finally to Oanes where I took a 10-minute ferry back to the mainland for another scenic drive. Along the way, just lots of beautiful scenery – mountains, water, green pastures with sheep everywhere and even followed some signs up in the hills to a “golfklubb.” (There should be a photo here of a couple playing the final hole…I was a dork and walked it with them. Nobody was using carts.)

Here’s a map of where I went: http://www.hamrane-hyttefelt.no/en/placement/placement.htm

And what would a diary about my day be unless I explained the food I had. Saturday was a junk food day. In Tau I had a Kebab. Was trying to decipher the menu…the guy was recommending hamburger since obviously that’s what all Americans want…but, me likey kebabs. So was trying to decide which kebab and he goes “get the one with ‘salat’ – it’s the most healthy.” This healthy meal consisted of a heaping plate full of french fries, iceburg lettuce (zero nutrition), corn mixed in, with the top being the kebab meat smothered in a dressing. It may not have been really healthy, but it was really damn good. Saturday night went to a pub late which happened, unbeknownst to me, to coincide with what James said was the “Super Bowl of Soccer” Bayern Munich vs. Chelsea. At any rate, had a couple of pints of Guniness and some cheese pizza. And now another night of sleeping like a baby. Looking forward to Skyping the family on Sunday. Until next time – Cheers!
